A couple of month ago, a routine blood work revealed that I have rather high cholesterol levels. The doctor decided to allow me to ‘adjust’ my ‘lifestyle’ in an attempt to bring down (or up as the case may be) my cholesterol. So, off I went to begin a fairly sustained (not hugely vigorous) exercise regiment and complete eschewment of fast food (which is my achilles heel). At the risk of sounding like someone in AA, I’m proud to say that I’ve been fast-food-free for a month and a half – a monumental accomplishment for me, especially since Mickey Dees, Wendy’s and Five Guys collectively seem like they’re always singing the Siren’s song.
Anyway, after 6 weeks, I went in for a follow-up blood work. Expecting a reduction in my cholesterol levels, I was geared up to treat myself to an order of french fries. To my chagrin, I was told that my cholesterol levels doubled since my last test. !!??!!. I did manage to ask for a repeat test, because it seemed so illogical. But even so, I’m on the verge of being placed on some serious cholesterol medications.
Let’s see how my follow-on to the follow-on test turns out like. In the meantime, the missus has completely banned any foods that have a semblence of being friend. So, the fast-food Sirens continue to seduce me unsuccessfully…so far…
